Designations
QUICK LINKS:
Designating is how equipment becomes part of Chicago Sonic Commons.
Designation is the process in which new equipment is added to the CSC Inventory. By designating something as part of Chicago Sonic Commons, the owner of a piece of equipment agrees to no longer claim ownership of it and to help facilitate its exchange with other people. The equipment then becomes part of a commons of resources shared and maintained by people using Chicago Sonic Commons.
Please use the step-by-step instructions below to get started.
Designating
Fill out and submit the Designation Form. Once you have decided that you would like to designate a piece of equipment, head to the Designation Form. This form will ask you for info about the equipment you are designating.
Check your email! Once you complete the Designation Form, you will receive a confirmation email. This email chain will be the primary avenue for communication for the rest of the Designation process. We will ask you for a photo of the equipment and any other necessary info not received in the Designation Form.
You will receive a Designation Packet in the mail. Once you have submitted all of the info needed to add the equipment the CSC inventory, we will send you a Designation Packet. This will include QR code stickers you will attach to the equipment and/or it's case, as well as a marker you can use to write the equipment's inventory number on it.
The designated equipment will be added to the CSC Inventory. The designated equipment will be viewable in the CSC Inventory spreadsheet.
People request to use the equipment. Once the equipment is in the Inventory sheet, people can begin requesting to use it. You will receive an email connecting you to the person requesting the equipment, and the two of you will coordinate a time and place to exchange it.
Exchange the equipment with someone who wants it! Once you have exchanged the equipment with the first person who requests it, it will be in perpetual circulation. It will pass between people interested in using it.
